Top 5 Reasons to Read Born at Dawn

I’m thrilled to be a new member of the TBR and Beyond Tour Team!

Last month I had the pleasure of reading an advanced copy of Born at Dawn by Christina Davis. Born at Dawn is the first book in the Da’Valia Trilogy releasing on November 15th, 2020. I’m excited to introduce you to this amazing new adult fantasy series today as part of the Born at Dawn TBR and Beyond Book Tour.

Before I jump into my Top 5 Reasons to Read Born at Dawn I’d like to introduce you to the author, Christina Davis, and share a synopsis of the book.

Meet the Author

Christina Davis was raised in the Santa Cruz Mountains and is a California girl at heart. She spent much of her childhood in and out of hospitals and embraced reading as an escape. After being home-schooled through high school, she graduated summa cum laude from San Jose State University and attended NYU’s Summer Publishing Institute before embarking on a decade-long career in journalism. She enjoys chocolate, cosplay, coffee, and board games, but not necessarily in that order. She now lives in beautiful Monterey County with her husband and daughter. Born at Dawn is Christina’s debut novel.

When a heist goes terribly wrong and the binding spell holding 17-year old Neva’s powers at bay is shattered, the half-human thief knows she’s in trouble.

Neva has always hidden her Da’Valian heritage while working risky jobs to make a name for herself and serving at her family’s tavern, but she won’t be able to hide much longer. She can either risk the safety of those she cares about or seek out her mother’s people to gain control over her emerging powers.

The D’Valia are beautiful, brutal creatures created by the god of war, and the austere Da’Valian soldier Astiand reluctantly agrees to take Neva to his clan under his protection. She makes unexpected friends, including the handsome fighter Emiliand, and a new enemy in the clan’s ruthless leader.

Spying on her guardian, the sly heroine quickly discovers just how deep she has stumbled into a dangerous, developing clan feud.

Will she be able to embrace who she is in time to keep her loved ones safe?

Top 5 Reasons to Read Born at Dawn

Born at Dawn sounds amazing, right? I truly enjoyed this book, these are the Top 5 Reasons I think you should read Born at Dawn…..in no particular order.

REASON ONE ~ A truly unique storyline.

I love the fantasy genre but sometimes find myself reading books with similar storylines. Born at Dawn has a truly unique storyline, which made it a refreshing read.

REASON TWO ~ Amazing world-building.

One of the author’s strengths is world-building. The world-building in this book is descriptive, intriguing, and magical. This is the beginning of a series so strong world-building is a big plus for me as a reader when thinking about the future of the series

REASON THREE ~ Fantastic character development.

This goes hand in hand with the amazing world-building. The characters in Born at Dawn develop throughout the book, they are very dynamic in nature. There is a lot of information provided to the reader during the character building, do not let that deter you from reading this book. The author provides a detailed glossary of terms in the book for reference if you find yourself needing to brush up on earlier details as you read. I fell in love with this book due to the world-building and character development.

REASON FOUR ~ Magic, magic, and more magic!

There is so much magic in this book! I absolutely loved this aspect of the book. So many characters have magical abilities, which are used often throughout the book. What makes the magical aspect of Born at Dawn so interesting is how the magic changes over the course of the book as characters hone their magical abilities. Magic is really a key element to this book, and it is woven throughout the storyline in a brilliant manner.

REASON FIVE ~ Escape from reality.

This book was the perfect escape from reality for me. Some books sweep you up into the story, Born at Dawn is one of those books! I think each of the reasons I previously mentioned melded together lend themselves to this escape from reality. The exciting storyline is engaging and I found myself enthralled wondering what would happen next. If you feel the need to get lost in a good book, Born at Dawn fits “the bill.”

  • Amen to escape from reality! That’s really why I started writing fantasy to begin with. I was always sick as a kid, and fantasy let me escape for awhile… Thank you so much for your glowing review! I love how you’ve embraced Born at Dawn. It warms my heart 🙂
