Today is a busy day at K. Ruth Reveals! I am thrilled to be a new member of the Empire Book Tours Team, and I’m diving in with two book tour stops today.
First, I’d like to introduce you to a short story collection, The Weight of Rain by T.C. Emerys. I’ll be back later today to share another Empire Book Tours stop with you.
“The Weight of Rain, T. C Emerys’ debut collection of short stories, delves into the minds of seemingly different people, united by their humanity. Grieve with a journalist who has lost her mentor, an elderly man gripped by bitterness, and a mother struggling to keep her family together. Each of these people has loved and lost, and the rain falls on them just the same.”
I don’t usually gravitate to short story collections however this short story collection was calling my name from the moment I saw the cover. Follow that image up with an amazing synopsis and I couldn’t wait to get a copy of The Weight of Rain.
I am so very glad that I stumbled upon this collection of short stories because I adored this book! The book contains a total of nine short stories. My original plan was to read one of the stories each time I needed a break from something else I was reading.
I quickly abandoned that plan because I enjoyed the first story, Sunflower, so much that I just had to keep reading. This was my favorite short story from The Weight of Rain. Sunflower follows Eira, who is suffering from chronic pain. Eira’s interactions with others are impacted due to her chronic pain and the story shares this with readers. I personally connected to this story as Fibromyalgia is something I’ve been diagnosed with for several years. After forming that connection with Eira, I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting and found myself wishing for more afterward.
The writing style of T. C. Emerys is so enjoyable and clever. It takes a talented author to have the ability to engage a reader in just a few pages of a short story while still providing a complete storyline. T. C. Emerys is that talented author!
What I loved most about this collection of short stories is that the stories read like nonfiction, although this is a collection of fiction stories. Each unique story focuses on the story of a person or a group of people, yet, through the common elements of humanity, I felt as if all of the stories were connected.
I highly recommend The Weight of Rain to anyone looking for a collection of short stories that will give you a glimpse into humanity, leaving you feeling all sorts of emotions. If you usually don’t read collections, I still recommend reading The Weight of Rain, it really is that good!
I gladly award The Weight of Rain by T. C. Emerys ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 and I am so excited to see what this author has in store!
T.C. Emerys is also doing a giveaway of a signed copy of her book for 2 lucky people! To see details on how to enter, visit Empire Book Tours here. The giveaway will end on December 11th, the last day of the tour and the winner will be announced on December 12th!
